The seventh generation of Ford's pony car introduces new looks, new tech, a new EcoBoost four-cylinder, and a revised V-8.

Rarely does something like this occur. The 2024 Mustang, the seventh generation of Ford's iconic Pony Car, the world's best-selling sports coupe, 

and probably America's most adored vehicle, was presented at a ceremony in Detroit on Wednesday.

This new Mustang, with the chassis designation S650, has the same platform as the S550 Mustang, which made its debut in 2014. 

The greenhouse and hard points are therefore unchanged, but the S650 has undergone other changes 

that collectively give it a distinctive appearance and feel from its forerunner. 

Mustang chief engineer Ed Krenz says Road & Track, "With the current generation car, we're beginning from a fairly solid point. 

"The platform is very well suited to what we're attempting to do. Where we can, let's enhance everything a little bit, but do it carefully."

The new twin-scroll turbocharger with an electronically regulated wastegate and dual-fuel system ...

that employs both port and direct injection are two features of the basic 2.3-liter EcoBoost. 

The beloved Coyote engine from Ford's fourth generation, the 5.0-liter V-8, 

now has a dual-throttle-body intake system fed by apertures on either side of the bigger front grille. Ford hasn't yet released performance figures for either engine,
