The iconic Dodge Challenger SRT Demon continues to be impressive even years after it was inducted into the hall of fame for muscle cars.
It became the most potent road-going V8 ever fitted in a production automobile right away with 840 horsepower available.
There are a couple Dodge Demon records, though, that you might not be aware of.
What is record-breaking about the Dodge Demon’s hood scoop?
At the time of manufacturing, the hood scoop on the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon was the biggest hood scoop ever installed on a vehicle.
Dodge needed a way to ventilate the monstrosity, so in addition to its "power chiller," the Demon had a ram-air intake and a huge "air grabber" scoop.
But there are problems with the hood. The open hood is vulnerable to warpage and paint problems, claims Road & Track.
In fact, the record-breaking hood is so flawed that the owners are suing for compensation.
How many Dodge Demons are left?
Most of the 3,300 original Dodge Demon record-breakers still exist. Except for the occasional auction or resale, they are entirely reserved.
According to Car & Driver, buyers could have purchased a Dodge Challenger SRT Demon for as little as $86,390.
But because the quantity sold so quickly, waiting and more than $100,000 will probably be needed to get a Demon.
